Many times proclaimed, which immediately implies the impossibility of this proposition, the death of the painting is a modernist fantasy which has been able, at the discretion of the interpretations, to evolve into a de-radicalized trend, style, plastic and intellectual form.It has become the catchphrase of curators and other thinkers of contemporary imagery. (See Big Mini, Big Bang, Half Square Half Crazy).
The challenge of this new date at the 5UN7 is not linked to a vertical thought of painting, it is not a question of judging the validity of the death of the painting in 1950 or 2050 but to move the reflection on the question of the “Return” of the death of painting, that is to say, to question the periodicity of the cycles of thought of contemporary painting.
By deliberately choosing to combine anachronistic and yet noticeably close works, this curatorial proposal dissects the mechanisms that influence the elaboration of abstract and geometric minimalist plastic thinking.
– What are the interactions that certain works have between them considering their different generations?
– Can we consider Clement Greenberg’s minimalist and radical thinking as a trend, a style, a genre that has contaminated all the layers of the domains of plastic creation?
We will try together not to answer these questions, while taking care to develop new ones, which will remain unanswered, lost, engulfed by the Maelstrom stylistic cycles of post modernity.
