Created in 2014, La Réserve – Bienvenue is neither a collective of artists, nor a permanent space of exhibition, nor an incubator of artistic projects, nor a gathering of individual studios. It is a shared work and experimentation space for multiple artists, in an old pasta factory in Bordeaux, where sometimes projects emerge.
Our intention for the associative project of La Réserve simply stems from the way we have “lived” in this place for the last two years. Indeed, we noticed collectively over time that the way we used the space didn’t strictly correspond to that of an artist studio. The diversity of our practices, our itineraries and our lives contributed to occupy the place with pragmatism and common sense, in an open and shared way.
The mezzanine is the space that revealed this desired state of mind. Initially planned for exhibitions, the mezzanine through its use became much more than this. The exhibitions which were supposed to follow one another overlapped, leaving painting here, furniture there, a plant in a corner… It created a way of living this place which we would like to extend and amplify by provoking and creating new moments, for new encounters, atmospheres and perspectives. We don’t want to theorize or conceptualize this transverse and evolutionary dimension, this is a thing that is to be practiced above all.
