Pascal Bouchaille continues his cycle of exhibitions in unprecedented spaces and takes over a legal office where he is presenting Pauline Bazignan’s new works, paintings on canvas as well as various series of ceramic sculptures.
On canvas or on paper, a round shape appears, a planet, an eye, a flower… carried by a line. Between abstraction and figuration, the boundaries are scrambled, blurred, they disappear but the motif stays like a trace, a souvenir, a remanence.
Pauline Bazignan calls upon the elements so that her artworks may reveal themselves. First and foremost, gravity, that enables a single point to become a line thanks to dripping, then water that eats away, degrades, deteriorates the circles and bursts of colour, allowing poetic, sensitive and intriguing paintings to surface.
For her sculptures, the artist also looks to “bring sensitivity to the invisible, the hidden side of things”. Here again, the process brings a destructive element into play, fire, whose action gives birth to the ceramics.
As if the artist wasn’t completely responsible for her creations, as if she let the elements operate, she offers the visitor an enigmatic, simple, yet powerful contemplation.
